Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant position is a key member of the Fishbowl Solutions Finance and Accounting team. You will make sure the company’s financial information is timely and accurate, handling a range of general accounting duties from accounts receivable and payable to payroll, multi-state sales tax, and reconciliations. You will help put in place and improve our operational and accounting procedures and maintain strong internal controls to ensure accurate financial records. Beyond accounting, you will support Human Resources by managing SuccessFactors, administering benefits, and running the recruiting process from start to finish. You will also play a central part in day-to-day office operations: planning company events, coordinating facilities, and keeping our office well stocked, well equipped, and looking its best. Your work will play a critical role in supporting company growth.

We are looking for a Staff Accountant who is detail-oriented and proactive by nature: someone who closes out reconciliations on schedule, follows up on a past-due account before it becomes a problem, and looks for ways to make routine work faster and more accurate, including with AI tools. You are a professional who moves comfortably between the general ledger, the hiring pipeline, and the front desk, and who handles confidential information with sound judgment. If you are an accounting professional who enjoys variety and wants to grow into a Senior Staff Accountant, Controller, Human Resources Manager, or Operations role, apply today. At Fishbowl Solutions, we hire for talent and train for skill!

We are a team of driven problem solvers at the intersection of technology and industry. Come join us!

As a Staff Accountant, a typical day might include the following:

  • Generating client invoices and following up with customers on past-due accounts to keep receivables current
  • Processing purchase orders, vendor invoices, and employee expense reports, coded to the appropriate general ledger accounts
  • Processing payroll, benefits, employee rewards, sales commissions, and bonuses, and recording the related accounting entries
  • Preparing journal entries, performing daily and monthly credit card reconciliations, and maintaining the annual corporate accounting calendar
  • Establishing and maintaining accounting control procedures, and reviewing accounting and system reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Preparing, paying, and filing monthly and quarterly multi-state sales tax returns
  • Maintaining the customer maintenance database (quoted, invoiced, and paid status) and the spreadsheets that track customer deposits, maintenance deferred revenue, and accounting metrics
  • Managing SuccessFactors so every employee has approved quarterly and annual goals
  • Driving the recruiting process with hiring managers and our recruiter, and owning onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and personnel files
  • Coordinating company events, meeting preparation, and employee travel under Fishbowl’s Travel Policy, recommending lower-cost options when available
  • Managing reception and the main phone line: greeting visitors, preparing meeting spaces, handling messages and mail, and keeping company phone lists current
  • Overseeing office maintenance, equipment, and supplies, and working with vendors to resolve issues
  • Keeping Fishbowl standard work current and using AI tools to automate routine tasks and improve the accuracy of reports and reconciliations

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a staff accountant role
  • 2–4 years of experience supporting leadership

  • Experience with financial and accounting software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot) and an interest in using them to automate routine tasks and improve accuracy
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle confidential and time-sensitive material with discretion
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, able to work independently or on a team and keep composure in a fast-paced environment
  • 1–2+ years of experience in a professional services firm and experience with ADP payroll, AccountEdge Pro, and NetSuite SuiteProjects Pro a plus
