FISHBOWL GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS – MINNEAPOLIS, MN
Fishbowl Solutions, an Oracle partner, has announced the general availability of their Office Online Server Connector for Oracle WebCenter Content. The connector enables Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel content that is stored in Oracle WebCenter to be accessed and opened in the online version of those programs directly from within WebCenter itself. It allows users within organizations that have both Oracle WebCenter Content and the Microsoft Office Online Server to immediately access, simultaneously edit, and then save content back to WebCenter – without ever having to invoke check-in and check-out screens.
Fishbowl’s Office Online Server Connector was developed in response to feedback and frustrations they received while working with WebCenter Content customers for over 20 years. This includes their struggles to obtain widespread adoption by getting business or casual users to use the system for document management. These struggles were due mostly to the WebCenter interface, including its forms-based check in and out feature, which does not lend itself to quick access, simple editing, and the ability to easily share and collaborate on business content.
Fishbowl’s Office Online Server Connector for Oracle WebCenter pairs the best in enterprise content management from WebCenter with the simple and intuitive content editing and collaboration capabilities of Microsoft Office. By pairing these capabilities, the connector will help WebCenter customers get more users leveraging the system overall, while also helping organizations comply to document and information retention policies through the storing of managed versions within a single, secure enterprise content repository.
This solution is available to any Oracle WebCenter Content customer using the standard 11g and 12c interface that also has a Microsoft Office volume licensing account or subscription. These customers can download Microsoft Office Online Server for free, which would immediately give WebCenter users view-only functionality. WebCenter customers that want content editing capabilities will also need to have an on-premises Microsoft Office Suite license or an Office 365 subscription.
“We are very excited to provide WebCenter customers with a solution we feel not only solves one of their biggest system challenges, but also enables them to edit their content faster and more efficiently,” said Fishbowl president Tim Gruidl. “With more simple and familiar ways to edit Microsoft Office content directly from WebCenter, more and more users should start using the system, which should lead to more properly managed and secure content across their organization.”
