Oracle ExaLogic Rack
Oracle made a splash at Open World with their announcement of their Exalogic machine. For those of us in the E20 space, this is one big piece of E20 ready iron. With ready made WebCenter, ECM, SOA, IDM, BI and tons of memory and storage, it is about as E20 ready as anything out there.
It’s the muscle car of e20 hardware. It’s got the speed of a drag racer. It’s the Sherman tank of enterprise IT collaboration back ends.
But as I wrote here for CMSWire, all that power and capability needs to be directed. Drag racers are not street legal. You don’t commute in a Sherman tank.
Make sure that you are coordinating your shared E20 services story and giving some careful and deliberate thought to how you are going to architect your shared services based solutions to take advantage of all that power. Remember that shared services only yield a return if they are actually shared. The potential to be shared is just a starting point, not the finish line.
