What is an Insight Engine? Gartner defines it as “Systems that apply relevancy methods to discover, describe, organize and analyze content and data. They enable preexisting or newly synthesized information to be delivered proactively or interactively, in context, to digital workers, customers and others at timely business moments”. As search technologies have evolved, Insight Engines have incorporated machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities to deliver contextual content and data to knowledge workers. They are more than just an enterprise search system because they can provide actionable insights to users instead of just a list of search results that have to be sorted through, which is how most enterprise search systems behave today.
Fishbowl Solutions became a Mindbreeze partner in 2017. At the time, we needed to find an on-premises search system to offer our customers that would replace the Google Search Appliance (GSA) as it was being sunsetted. However, the system we chose had to be more than just a replacement. We needed a system that did everything the GSA did, backed by a company we felt confident had a vision and roadmap that would lead to a better and better product over time. The evaluation criteria we used to select Mindbreeze against other search vendors included these requirements:
- Options for searching on-premises content
- Connectors and connector frameworks for indexing non-web data sources
- Support for public and secure use cases
- Tools and APIs for search interface integration
- Minimal development efforts and ongoing administration required
- Overall value – capabilities compared to cost
Mindbreeze has and continues to deliver. All these requirements are represented in Gartner’s evaluation criteria for their Magic Quadrant, with a big change between 2017 and 2021 for Mindbreeze being they now have a cloud (SaaS) offering. Fishbowl has worked with several dozen of Mindbreeze’s thousands of customers to deliver more insight and knowledge to users. Customers like Banner Engineering, who are using Mindbreeze to index Oracle WebCenter, a parts database, and an Adobe-based website, to provide one single, secure experience for their employees, partners, and customers.
We applaud Mindbreeze for being named in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Insight Engines in 2021. Fishbowl is happy to be working with the clear leader in this space.
